Holidaymakers jump on low-rate NSW ski season

NSW holiday makers are taking advantage of an unprecedentedly affordable snow season, with Discovery Parks – Jindabyne receiving an influx of enquiries since the lifting of travel restrictions was announced.

While the property would usually be near sold out in advance of the season starting, with cabins fetching prices as high as $1,000, COVID-19 closures have created a huge opportunity for affordable ski holidays.

CEO of G’DAY Group, Grant Wilckens, said that never before has accommodation been so readily available and affordable during peak season.

“Most Aussies have been unsure of whether ski season would exist in NSW this year and cancelled their holidays” said Grant.

“The sudden opening back up for travel has created an unprecedented situation. Accommodation is available, and from as low as under $150 per night which is absolutely unheard of at this time of year.”

“For those heading to the snowfields, cabin accommodation is the safest available as it’s self-contained. Simply park alongside your private cabin with independent cooking facilities, independent heating and no need to be in lifts or communal areas,” said Grant.

In the past 24 hours, Discovery Holiday Parks has seen a 60% increase in visitors to its Jindabyne park page and the phones have been running hot.

The company has implemented a risk-free booking policy, allowing people to book without a deposit and cancel for a full refund up to 48 hours prior to arrival.

“We’re expecting that it won’t be long before accommodation sells out as people jump on this opportunity. Not only will regulars be re-booking, but with overseas and interstate holidays cancelled, a lot more people than usual will be keen to head to the snow this year,” said Grant.

Cabins start from under $150 per night for a standard studio sleeping four people.

“We have a huge range of accommodation in Jindabyne, from brand new cabins with open fireplaces (which ordinarily attract prices near $1,000 in peak) to modest studio accommodation (starting from under $150 per night),” said Grant.

“Our Jindabyne park is the closest holiday park to the snowfields and is a self-contained community with a restaurant, café, ski hire and service station adjacent. It’s perfect for a self-isolated ski holiday” said Grant.

Discovery Parks – Jindabyne will open on 1 June under operational procedures that align with best practice for the minimisation of COVID-19 risk.

Note: Ski lift operators remain closed, with lift passes available for sale from 30 June 2020 onward at this stage.
