Discovery Parks expands regional Queensland presence with latest acquisition

Blackwater Motel

Discovery Parks has today announced the leasehold purchase of Blackwater Central Motel in the regional town of Blackwater in Central Queensland.

The 29-room motel services a predominantly corporate and workforce market and complements Discovery’s existing holiday and caravan park in the town, which also largely accommodates travelling and fly-in-fly-out workers.

Located on Blackwater’s main thoroughfare, Railway Street, Blackwater Central Motel is less than two kilometres from the existing Discovery Parks property. The two facilities will be combined under a centralised management structure as Discovery Parks – Blackwater.

Discovery Parks Chief Operations Officer Matt Lang said the acquisition was a strategic complement to its existing presence in the town.

“Through our workstay division, Discovery Parks is one of Australia’s leading providers of corporate and workforce accommodation, supporting the remote accommodation needs of leading businesses around the country,” Mr Lang said.

“This acquisition enables us to cost effectively expand our presence in a region with strong upside thanks to booming resources, agriculture and transport sectors.

“Owing to the anticipated growth in demand for quality workforce accommodation in the town, we had considered an expansion of our existing holiday and caravan park site; however, Blackwater Central Motel provides us with access to a near new asset with low anticipated maintenance costs making for an appealing and strategically aligned deal.”

Discovery purchased the property through ResortBrokers’ agent Nathan Benjamin, alongside ResortBrokers’ new Central Queensland agents, Lleyton McArthur and Tania Johnston.
