Celebrating 20 Years of Rock & Blues at Discovery Resorts - Undara
One of regional Queensland’s most distinctive music events is marking a major milestone in 2026, as the Undara Rock & Blues Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary. Held from 24 to 26 April, the festival will welcome guests for three days of music amongst the oldest lava tubes in the world at Discovery Resorts – Undara.
For two decades, the festival has drawn hundreds of music lovers to the edge of Undara Volcanic National Park, cementing its place as one of outback Queensland’s most distinctive cultural events.
A festival like no other
Since launching in 2006, the event has hosted more than 100 performers and welcomed passionate Rock & Blues listeners from around Australia.
Known for its intimate setting the festival has grown to be known as the ‘outback’s biggest little festival,’ where the audience and artists mingle throughout the weekend. A signature closing-night improvised jam session featuring all artists is a long-standing festival tradition and audience highlight.
Unlike traditional city-based music events, the Undara Rock & Blues Festival is an immersive destination experience. Guests stay onsite at Discovery Resorts – Undara, with accommodation packages including two festival tickets. Watching the sunset over outback landscapes and taking tours with experienced guides of the region’s iconic lava tube systems have become synonymous with the festival weekend.
Continuing its commitment to showcasing leading Australian talent with a focus on local performers, the 2026 lineup features a strong mix of acclaimed and crowd-favourite performers including Ezra Lee, The Hussy Hicks, George and Noriko, Ben Ford Davies and Tim Griffin.
Driving regional tourism
The Festival has become an important contributor to visitation in Tropical North Queensland, encouraging travellers to extend their stay and explore the surrounding region.
Grant Wilckens, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of G’day Group and Discovery Resorts said, “Reaching 20 years is a significant milestone for a regional event.”
“At Discovery Resorts, we’re committed to creating destination-led experiences that give people a compelling reason to travel, stay longer and connect with regional Australia. Events like the Undara Rock & Blues Festival not only showcase incredible Australian talent, they also play an important role in supporting regional communities by bringing visitors, creating local opportunities and celebrating the unique character of iconic destinations like Undara.”
Stay in the heart of the experience
Located three and a half hours from Cairns via the Savannah Way, Discovery Resorts – Undara offers accommodation unlike anywhere else in Australia. Festival-goers can stay in restored turn-of-the-century railway carriages, air-conditioned Pioneer Huts, homestead-style rooms, swag tents or powered caravan and camping sites, all within walking distance of the festival stage.
Beyond the music, visitors can purchase signature Discovery Experiences led by guides with extensive knowledge of the area including:
