Bunbury splash park to open in 2022

Bunbury’s new splash park is now anticipated to open in March 2022, following a number of COVID-related delays.

Discovery Parks Chief Operations Officer, Matt Lang, said that factors beyond the company’s control mean that the splash park would not be opening prior to Christmas as hoped.

“We know the local community and tourists have really been looking forward to the splash park opening,” said Matt.

“Unfortunately, we have encountered layers of delays over the past few months which have hampered construction. From freight issues with components, to difficulty securing tradespeople, we are not alone in experiencing construction delays due to COVID.”

“In early Spring works were also paused due to birds nesting in the area.”

“While the postponed opening is disappointing, we’re really looking forward to welcoming the community to the splash park from March,” said Matt.

The splash park is a partnership with the City of Bunbury and will be free for the local community to use.

Along with the splash park, Discovery Parks is also upgrading tourist accommodation with 26 new family tourist cabins, more than 70 new holiday sites at Lot 1881 Koombana Drive.

The $8.5 million development will further complement the vibrant Koombana precinct.
