Kayak down Mossy Point with Region X Kayak Adventures
WATCH: KAYAK DOWN MOSSY POINT WITH REGION X KAYAK ADVENTURES
Just a ten minute drive from Moruya, Mossy Point is a hidden treasure along the coastline. The point where the Tomaga River meets the sea, Mossy Point is not only beautiful but it’s also the ideal spot for water sports. Right on the banks of the river, you’ll find the quaint little headquarters of Region X, an award-winning touring business.
Josh Waterson is the director here, an incredibly experienced guide, water-sport instructor and passionate local. “We had a family holiday house growing up, and school holidays were all spent around surfing, diving and fishing,” he says. “I worked as a commercial rafting guide around the world for a while, and then we had a family so we moved back...I realised there was a real opportunity to have a touring company here.”
Josh, his wife Kate and the team are as knowledgeable and passionate as they come about the region. “Guiding groups out on the water is my passion, but I’m really passionate about the area, too. On any given day you can turn up on any beach and find there are no other footprints. I love the topography of the place, too - we’ve got amazing beaches, incredible forests, fresh water rivers and all sorts.”
You can see and experience all of this from the river, with the mountains as a backdrop and the sea before you. Whether you hire kayaks or bikes to explore the area, or you’d like a lesson or a tour, Josh can help you choose the right activity for you and your travelling crew.
Hire a single or double kayak from the shed and explore Tomaga River at your own pace, or head out on one of Josh’s more involved tours, including his popular half day sea kayak tours which take you around Batemans Bay and a few secret spots along the way. There’s also glass bottom kayak tours, coffee kayak tours where you can sip a coffee or hot chocolate on the water, and even an oyster tasting tour or pizza paddle where you and the family can enjoy a slice from the comfort of your own water vessel.
In operation for 12 years now, Josh and his team know what they’re doing, their relaxed and informative teaching and touring style designed to make everyone feel comfortable on the water. “This is a fantastic family activity. We’re trying to nurture that beautiful positive, safe water experience here.”
G’DAY team tip: Make sure to settle in and soak up the sights after your experience at Josh’s shed - they make excellent coffee and source local pastries (including delicious sausage rolls) which make for a great pick-me-up. Josh will even put on some records on his small portable player, so you can sit back and relax.
Region X kayak hire starts at $30, and tours begin at $65. Book online or contact Josh. For more details, visit the website.
