Discovery directory: things to see and do in Emerald Beach

Nestled between the beach and the bush lies a gem of the east coast, Emerald Beach.  Halfway between Sydney and Brisbane this picturesque area is all about the water with swimming, surfing, fishing and long beach walks aplenty. But as locals to the area, we know that there is so much to do in the area. Here are our top picks for a great few days in Emerald Beach.

Just a 15 min stroll from the park is the enigmatic “Look at me now” Headland.  This area is a real show-off with kangaroos perched along the coast and while it’s not recommended to touch them you can admire them from afar and maybe even snap a roo selfie. Pack a picnic and settle in amongst natural grasses to soak up the views in every direction.

Cafes are scattered around the region with outdoor tables and chairs making the most of the sunny region. Grab a coffee to take along your walk or stop in at Surf St Café just a few lazy metres from the beach and enjoy a delicious dining experience.

During August and September the Coffs Coast becomes prime whale watching territory as Humpback mother’s and calves can be spotted along the coast as they make their way to the Solitary Island waters.

Bring your four-legged friend along and take your pooch for a walk along one of the many coastal paths. There are also several beaches with leash-free zones, meaning your doggo can zip about and enjoy the sand and sea as much as you do. There is one of these just outside the park with direct access.

Looking to ride the waves while you're on the coast? Get in touch with the team from Solitary Islands Surf School and book in a surf lesson or two just 200m from the park. With kids surfing lessons or surfing experiences for individual or private groups, you'll learn what you need to do to ensure you stay safe out on the water.
