5 Winter Warmers in New South Wales

When the temperature drops, NSW doesn’t slow down — it just swaps beach towels for blankets, and barbecues for fire pits. From coastal getaways to lakeside stays, New South Wales is full of winter spots worth discovering — and they’re even better with a little firelight to end the day.  So if you’re ready to rug up and head out, we’ve got a few spots that’ll bring the heat this winter.

Discovery Parks – Ballina

While BYO fire pits aren’t permitted here, you won’t miss out on the warm and fuzzy vibes. There’s a communal fire area where you can share stories, toast marshmallows and enjoy the flicker of the flames without lifting a finger (or a match).

Before the fire gets going, get the family outside to enjoy the Byron Bay Hinterland. It’s where rolling hills, hidden waterfalls and scenic rainforests meet the beautiful coast.  Feeling hungry after all that running around? Stop in one of the towns like Bangalow for a fresh, homemade treat. After spending the day exploring the lush Hinterland, head back for a quiet night with the fire already crackling.

Discovery Parks – Eden

Eden might be known for its whale watching, but in winter it’s also a top spot for fire-side relaxation. Make the most of the day first, and explore our playground, bouncing pillow and sports facilities. Plus, enjoy a uniquely Australian wildlife experience at nearby Potoroo Palace. If the kids are more budding veterinarian than marine biologist, this is the perfect spot for some family fun. This nonprofit charity and wildlife sanctuary offers hand-feeding experiences and the chance to see some iconic Australian animals like koalas and dingoes in their natural habitat.

Once you're ready to unwind, sit back and enjoy the crisp evening with the sound of the ocean in the distance and a fire close by. Fires are allowed in raised fire pits only, and you’re welcome to bring your own or hire one from reception. Firewood and kindling are both available on-site too — just ask one of our friendly staff for assistance.
