Campfire catch ups with Sandy from Geelong, VIC

Sandy has been managing the park since joining Discovery just over 15 months ago and tells us her favourite feature is the indoor heated mineral swimming pool. The pool is new addition to the park that was completed in December last year: “it can get pretty cold in winter, so being able to swim all year round is just the best. It’s magnesium, so it’s great for sore muscles and the water is crystal clear and so light.” Between the relaxing mineral pool and the comfy beds Sandy says there’s one thing guaranteed – a good night’s sleep!

Even if winter is a little chilly, the cooler months are a fantastic time to explore the sights and attractions of Geelong. As Victoria’s second largest city and the gateway to the Great Ocean Road, there’s plenty to do no matter the time of year. The Little Creatures Brewery is a stone’s throw away, and the waterfront hosts plenty of cafes and restaurants to grab a bite. Sandy says the local bike trails – in particular along the Barwon River which runs right opposite the park – will not disappoint: “the scenery is just gorgeous, especially now with all the autumn leaves falling.”

Keeping Sandy company is American Staffy x English Bulldog, Banksy, who belongs to Sandy’s daughter and is considered a bit of a legend around the park. “He’s very popular with the permanent residents and regular guests,” Sandy says, and we can see why!

When she’s not working, Sandy loves to explore the local area by bike or hit the shops for some retail therapy. She’s also nanna to five grandkids who live in Queensland, so family visits are high on the agenda. She would love to take her two daughters and grandkids to Discovery Parks – Pambula Beach, proving that park people love park holidays: “It’s a great place to relax with so much to do for the kids and so close to the beach. My kind of holiday!”
