Sip a local brew at Longstocking Brewery

No matter how long your journey to the seaside townships of Eden and Pambula, sipping a local brew at Longstocking Brewery is a great way to start your travels and settle into life in the slow lane on the Sapphire Coast.

Part of a quaint little complex of businesses including a nursery, art gallery and café, Longstocking Brewery has been around for almost three years, with current owner Peter Caldwell taking over 12 months ago.

“We like to say we’re the biggest little brewery on the Sapphire Coast,” Peter says. “We brew everything here, and we are absolutely passionate about beer. We have ten beers on tap at any one time, and we aim to always have something for everyone on offer.”

They’ve got a varied selection, from classic Pale Ales and Amber Ales, to more niche brews, including the likes of Kolsch Lager and Australian Weisse. “We have the most talented young brewer to come out of England,” Peter says. “Simon Beck is a hop whisperer – his knowledge is encyclopedic and his passion is even bigger.”

There’s also a range of other drinks like their ginger beer and apple and rhubarb cider, as well as a collection of local wines and a cocktail menu, if you’re not a fan of the traditional frothie. Peter’s top tip? “We have an amazing array of gins, so make sure you try one of our gin goblets.”

Sip something by the glass or make your way through the range with one of their impressive tasting paddles. If you’re feeling peckish, you can sample something from their expansive menu. They’ve even got separate menus for wood-oven pizza and their popular oyster bar (the region is known for their oysters), so best to come hungry as well as thirsty so you can sample a selection of delicious delicacies while you’re here.

It’s an easy stop-off if you’re travelling through, or a great spot to sink into the cosy space and soak up the sunset with a delicious sundowner. “There’s plenty of room so you can park any sized rig out the front,” Peter says, “and we’re pet friendly here, too, so we’re most likely to greet your pet before we greet you!”

G’DAY team tip: Make sure to give the lovely crew a call before your visit and see if they’ve got any live music coming up in the space, so you can time your visit for a little local gig, too!

Longstocking Brewery is open 7 days.
