Fraser Island, QLD

Fraser Island is literally, a paradise for outdoor lovers. Known as K’gari (meaning paradise) by its traditional owners, the Butchulla people, this world heritage listed island stretches over 120 kilometres in length with an area of 184,000 hectares. 

The island offers plenty of activities for visitors to experience and enjoy: Lounge at the famed pure white silica sand beach on Boorangoora (Lake McKenzie), kayak on the freshwaters of Awinya Creek, or visit the Maheno Shipwreck on the 75 Mile Beach.

GOLFING WITH A VIEW

Get dad back to nature by taking him fishing! Enjoy the unhurried pace of nature at Nagambie Lakes, a 170-hectare man made reservoir located in the Goldfields region of Victoria. The lake is home to a strong population of Spiny Freshwater Crayfish, Golden Perch, tasty Redfin trout and Murray Cod.

After a day of fishing, explore the other fascinating parts of Nagambie together. For history buffs, follow the footsteps of Ned Kelly with a guided walk on the Ned Kelly Trail. And for the foodies, a dining experience at the Tahbilk Wetlands View Restaurant, one of Australia’s historic family-owned wineries is a must.

Launceston, TAS

An hour from Launceston is Arthurs Lake, one of Tasmania’s most popular lakes for wild brown trout fishing. A man made reservoir, the lake was created in the 1920s by the Hydro-Electric Commission of Tasmania and has become a popular fishing spot over the years for locals and visitors.

Once dad’s had his fill of fishing, head back to Launceston town centre to enjoy the other attractions like the National Automobile Museum of Tasmania, and the Queen Victoria Museum.
