First-time camper's guide: top 5 holiday park myths busted

MYTH 1: I HAVE TO TRAVEL FOR HOURS TO GET THERE

Thanks to our vast network of over 80 properties across Australia, you can choose to holiday near or far. While many of us may love to hit the road (and see where it takes us along the way), there’s also the option of picking a location closer to home.

Some of our parks in the best river and wine regions are less than 3 hours’ drive away from major cities, and our metropolitan parks can take you to bustling Melbourne, Perth or Adelaide’s Semaphore beach.

However, if you are keen on a memorable Australian road trip experience, we’ve got locations along some of the country’s favourite holiday routes. So whether you’re exploring WA, the Great Ocean RoadNSW’s east coast, or Queensland’s tropical coast, it’s easy to plan your stops along the way.

Planning to hit the road with the family? Here are some road trip tips when travelling with kids.

MYTH 2: I HAVE TO SLEEP IN A TENT AND SHARE A BATHROOM

Sleeping under the stars or using a communal bathroom isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but it isn’t the only way to stay! Our parks offer a wide range of accommodation options to suit every type of traveller experience: from powered and unpowered campsites to modern cabins, townhouses and glamping experiences. Each option is available to all budgets, group sizes, and tastes so you can find the perfect place to rest your head.

Our amenities blocks are always kept up to standard but you can always opt for ensuite sites (access to a private bathroom next to your tent or caravan), fully self-contained cabins, or even spa cabins for something a little bit extra.

MYTH 3: THERE’S NOTHING TO DO

Discovery Parks are located in some of Australia's most sought-after destinations making exploring the local sights and attractions a breeze. Some of our parks are even holiday destinations in themselves! With water parks, playgrounds, jumping pillows, swimming pools, and a range of fun equipment for hire, kids will be entertained from sun-up to sun-down.

Don’t be surprised if you end up spending all your time at the park itself too. With a number of our holiday parks boasting views of rivers and sea, or being in the heart of the outback, it’s easy to get lost in the beautiful, natural surroundings  – after all, you’re already amongst it!

MYTH 4: IT’S ONLY FOR FAMILIES

Our parks make for great family holidays but they are also ideal for other travellers too. Holiday parks are a fun and cost-effective option for group getaways with your mates, perfect for those who are looking to get out in nature and take time to disconnect, and close to seasonal hotspots like the ski fields and surf beaches.

There are some pretty up-market accommodation options for couples to enjoy a romantic getaway in deluxe cabins or safari tents, right in the heart of wine regions or with amazing beach views from the doorstep. Or, if you’re a solo traveller, you get the peace of mind of being somewhere secure with plenty of new friends to meet in the camp kitchen!

MYTH 5: ORGANISING CAMPING FOOD IS HARD WORK

If there’s one thing that’s easy when staying at Discovery Parks, is getting your meals organised. Our self-contained cabin kitchens provide everything you need to cook up a storm for the family.

Alternatively, you can access our well-equipped communal camp kitchens, BBQs. Need a break from cooking? You’ll find heaps of local pubs, cafes and restaurants nearby.

During peak holiday periods, you’ll also find many parks hosting pop-up coffee vans and food trucks offering additional options at mealtimes. The only rule (if your park allows campfires) is don’t forget the marshmallows!

Holiday parks bring you to the heart of some of our most incredible regional locations for holidays that you can tailor to suit your needs. With so many different options, it’s easy to holiday with us but your way.
