    Kidston Gold Mine

    Closed in July 2001, Kidston was the largest open cut gold mine in Australia, producing over 3.4 million ounces of gold during it's 17 years of operation. The sheer size of the man-made crater can be appreciated from the road to the old Kidston Battery, which operated in the 1800's on the site of the historic town of Kidston.
