If bike riding is your thing, then we suggest packing your wheels and heading off along the 3km Pennant Hills West Pymble fire trail! Follow the scenic track and bask in the eucalypt forest of Lane Cove National Park with plenty of variety in the route including technical elements and steep tracks for hill climbing. Please remember that the walking tracks are not for riding, so be sure to stick to the fire trails. If you don’t have a bike – don’t stress! The Lane Cove Boatshed also offers bike hire.

Along with a myriad of walking tracks within Lane Cove National Park, the Great North Walk is part of a longer hike that offers stunning scenery across Sydney, the Hunter Valley and Newcastle. The Lane Cove National Park Great North track is a 20km one-way stretch that can take up to 6-8 hours to complete. Rated as a grade 3 track, this walk is suitable for most ages and fitness levels. Strap your hiking boots on and get out to explore!

Explore the water of Lane Cove River by rowboat, kayak or peddle boat with a visit to the Lane Cove Boatshed. You can hire a boat and head out for an hour or two to truly discover what Lane Cove National Park has to offer. After you’ve worked up a sweat on the river, return to the boatshed for a refreshment or snack. How does ice cream and hot chips sound?

Built in 1856 by Thomas and Maria Jenkins, Jenkins Kitchen is all that remains of the Jenkins farmhouse after a fire in 1942. It’s an interesting look into colonial history and displays a beautiful example of mid-19th century architecture!

If you want waterfront views, check out Illoura picnic area, or if you’re not keen to sit on the grass, spots like Carter Creek, Casuarina Point and Commandment Rock picnic area have seated tables available. There are even barbecues available at Bakers Flat or Cottonwood Glen picnic area! Be sure to pack your binoculars to get a closer look at the birdlife and keep an eye out for the many eastern water dragons slinking around by the water. Wherever you wander, there’s a spot to sit down and relax with friends and family.
