Australia’s largest regional accommodation provider, the G’day Group, has further expanded its all-season alpine offering with the acquisition of Porepunkah Bridge Holiday Park in Victoria’s High Country.
The transaction will see the G’day Group take control of the Crown-leased property and make a further initial investment of nearly $1 million in upgrades and refurbishments, including the construction of a games room and a second camp kitchen.
Located just off Mount Buffalo Road on the banks of the Ovens River, the popular holiday park will be reimagined as Discovery Parks – Mount Buffalo and adds to the company’s growing alpine footprint, which also includes properties in Jindabyne and nearby Bright.
G’day Group Chief Executive Officer Grant Wilckens said the company aims to leverage its significant tourism and marketing expertise to entice more visitors to discover the Porepunkah/Mount Buffalo region all year round.
“Victoria’s High Country is already one of Australia’s favourite holiday spots, but the region still has so much potential for growth as an all-season destination,” he said.
“We absolutely love the location of the park. It has more than 400m of river frontage and is the perfect base for exploring the region’s hiking and cycling trails and provides easy access to the ski fields in winter, as well as the many other attractions the area has to offer.”
“By bringing the property into our Discovery Parks’ network, we can leverage our digital booking platforms and marketing expertise to attract a greater number of visitors. The property also offers significant development potential, and we are hopeful of engaging in positive discussions with the local council in order to make this happen.”
The 7.2-hectare property is the second largest holiday park in the Victorian alpine region and comprises 263 sites (25 tourist cabins, 91 powered sites, 39 unpowered sites and 108 annual sites). It also features a swimming pool, camp kitchen, laundry and two undercover BBQ areas.
