A new, highly anticipated splash park has today been unveiled at Sykes Foreshore as part of an $8.5 million investment in the Bunbury community by Australia’s largest regional accommodation provider, the G’day Group.
The ship-wreck themed splash park, which was co-funded by the City of Bunbury, sits adjacent to the popular Discovery Parks – Bunbury Foreshore holiday park and will be free and open for the community to use.
Along with the splash park, the G’day Group also unveiled 26 new family tourist cabins and more than 70 new holiday sites at the Koombana Drive Discovery Parks property.
G’day Group Chief Investment Officer Amanda Baldwin said that while the project hadn’t been all smooth sailing, the new splash park would give more tourists a reason to set course for Bunbury.
“This project has certainly not been without its challenges as COVID-19 has continued to have significant and unavoidable impacts, which is a pain being experienced right across the construction industry” she said.
“However, we’re thrilled to have the wonderful family-friendly splash park and new accommodation facilities finalised and ready for the locals and tourists to enjoy. We’re confident these investments will drive greater visitation to Bunbury and contribute to a more vibrant foreshore precinct.
“I’d like to thank the community for their patience, the City of Bunbury for their partnership on this project and our Discovery Parks team for their resilience and hard work in getting the upgrades finished.”
City of Bunbury Mayor Jaysen Miguel said it was exciting to see the splash park ready for the community to enjoy.
“This is an exciting asset not only for visitors to our beautiful City, but our local community members who will be able to use the splash park for free,” Mayor Miguel said.
“I would like to congratulate G’day Group for persevering with this project despite the challenges they’ve been dealt along the way, and for their confidence to invest in Bunbury with not only this community facility but the expansion of their holiday park.”
