DASH DOWN TO DISCOVERY PARKS - WOODMAN POINT & COOGEE BEACH

What is the best thing to do in your park?

Park Manager Tristan is dad to two young boys so knows how important it is to keep them amused. He recommends grabbing some popcorn and settling in to watch a movie on the inflatable movie screen at our Woodman Point location. Family favorite films are projected during the school holidays and on long weekends. Titles and session times can be found at park reception.

Just a hop, skip and a jump from your doorstep at Discovery Parks – Coogee Beach is the pristine sands of the Cockburn Coast. Tristan says it’s “arguably one of the best beaches in Perth” so ride the wave down to the sand and let it get in-between your toes along with the smell of the sea air up your nose.

What is the best thing to do beyond the park’s boom gate?

This one is a no-brainer for Tristan, exploring Rottnest Island is a must! You can book a daytrip to Rotto at Woodman Point reception and, Rottnest Express even offer a guest pick up/drop off service to this park. When on the island, make sure you get down into the scrub and come back with the perfect quokka selfie to share with him.

What is the best free thing to do nearby?

Speaking of little creatures, just under a 15-minute drive for both parks is Fremantle where Tristan’s favorite local place, Little Creatures Brewing, is located. Take a brewery tour and then enjoy a wood oven pizza lunch with a beer tasting platter. Digest and walk it off at the nearby fishing boat harbour and iconic Fremantle Markets.

SWAN DOWN TO DISCOVERY PARKS - SWAN VALLEY

What is the best thing to do in your park?

Park Manager Dean says his park has heaps of in-park amenities to take advantage of for the perfect picnic and play day. If you’re around on a weekend, the Swan Settlers Market (a short 10-minute drive from park) is the perfect spot to pick up some local produce for a BBQ meal. Mum & dad can digest with a bottle of wine (which you’ve picked up from one of the local wineries) while the kids splash around in the pool, cruise in the pedal carts, slip and slide on the playground, or get competitive in the games room.

What is the best thing to do beyond the park’s boom gate?

Deans says you won’t go hungry in Swan Valley and suggests spending a day eating your way through the region’s delicious food and wine menu. Start with a French breakfast of croissants, crepes and macarons across the road from the park at Maison Saint Honore. Make a lunch stop at the Henley Park Winery for some wine tasting, an alfresco café-style lunch and playground for the kids which is right next to the dining area. Check out chocolate making through a large viewing window at Margaret River Chocolate Co.

What is the best free thing to do nearby?

A sense of adventure is always free and the massive Jungle Park playground at Whiteman Edge caters to kids of all ages! Deans says it’s one of Perth’s best free community parks and is just a short 10-minute drive from the park. The rope swing, climbing nets, rock climbing wall, rope bridges, in-ground trampolines and 7-metre high tunnel slide will thrill for hours!

ROAD TRIP TO DISCOVERY PARKS - BUNBURY FORESHORE

What is the best thing to do in your park?

Park Manager Richard says there is heaps to keep the kids entertained and outdoors in his park. You can spend time jumping around on the bouncing pillow, scoring hoops on the basketball court, zooming on the pump track or serving aces on the tennis court. Should the weather get a little grey, you can always head indoors to the activity for some free or paid arcade-style games.

What is the best thing to do beyond the park’s boom gate?

There are TWO not to be missed family-fun activities close to the park that Richard would recommend putting on your Bunbury holiday itinerary.

The Dolphin Discovery Centre is just over a 5-minute walk from the park and has massive aquariums filled with marine life, interactive displays where you can hold starfish and feed turtles and, on good weather days, you can even swim with the dolphins in the local bay.

Jump in the car and 15-minutes later you’ll be jumping around at Gravity ETC, an indoor trampoline centre. Richard says it’s heaps of fun and a really good set up for kids, older kids and even parents!

What is the best free thing to do nearby?

Get outdoors and see Bunbury and its surrounding towns by mountain bike. Richard says there are great rides with easy flats to advanced long climb tracks. Plus, making a stop for coffee, lunch or even a local brew is worth the leg burn.

If you’re squeezed for time and can’t make the trip across to Rottnest Island, you can still get a peek at a quokka at the local zoo. Bunbury Wildlife Park is a quick 7-minute drive from the park and the only place outside Perth and Rotto where you can see these friendly furballs. Richards says it’s a lovely attraction for younger families where you can pat kangaroos and chat with the cockatoos.
