Take a walk through the trees with Illawarra Fly Treetop Adventures

Just two hours South of Sydney and around 40-minutes inland from Gerroa or Kiama, Illawarra Fly Treetop Adventures is nestled in the temperate rainforest of Knights Hill. Leave the coastal clifftops behind for a trip through the trees. You’ll feel as though you’re in another world, as expansive valleys turn into dense bushland and eventually lush rainforest floor.

Up here, the team at Illawarra Fly have something for every fitness level and age range. While they offer the popular Zipline Tour experience through the trees, this park is renowned for their impressive Treetop Walk which meanders 20 to 30 meters in the air, above the forest floor.

“Our treetop walk is a 1.5km return walk around the park,” says guide Josie Maclean. “We have two cantilevers to walk up, which have amazing views, and we have an incredible tall tower called Knights Tower which has great views out to the coast.”

Suitable for people of all ages and skill levels, the walk is a great way to get a unique perspective of the tree canopy here, and see the coast from a birds-eye view. While you’re here, don’t forget to look out for the native wildlife. “Some of our favourite wildlife in the park are the Tawny Frogmouths,” Josie says. “We have two that live here called Harry and Meghan who arrived just after the royal couple got married.”

“We’ve also got a few little additional things to the Treetop Walk as well, including a Sunrise Tour where we go out on the Treetop Walk when it’s nice and dark outside, see the city lights and then watch the sunrise over the coast and Illawarra Lake.” You will then be treated to coffee and brekky in the on-site café after, too.

For something completely different, you can also try their After Dark Zipline Tour. “We give you head torches while you’re up in the trees…it’s pretty fun,” Josie says.

G’DAY team tip: Set aside some time atop Knights Tower to really soak up the views. They’ve got big binoculars which are free to use and great fun for little ones.
