Lake Hume Activity Cheat Sheet

15 May 2015

The lake itself is a wonderful place for contemplation and relaxation. But for those of us who cannot sit still very long, it’s hard to look at this huge body of water without fantasising about doing a running jump straight into it. For some, Lake Hume is an opportunity to pull out a good book, write the next Australian novel or even just linger on the Hume dam wall for some time. But if you need to use that pent up energy that’s built over the time it’s taken you to get to this fantastic Albury Wodonga location, here’s a list of some things you can do.

Book at Discovery Parks - Lake Hume to enjoy what’s on offer at Albury Wodonga.

Lake Hume Water Sports

Water sports are a proud Australian tradition. Bring the stand up paddleboard, canoe, kayak, boat, fishing gear and anything else you can think of to this Albury Wodonga haven for water sports.

Lake Hume is stocked with Golden Perth, Brown and Rainbow Trout by the Victorian Fisheries Department and, like most fishing locations, has licensing requirements.

If you are bringing the boat, ramps are located:

  • Bowna Water, Ettamogah, Albury
  • Ebden Reserve, Wodonga (closest to the Boathaven Holiday Park)
  • Lake Hume Resort, Albury
  • Kookaburra Point
  • Ludlows Reserve
  • The Pines

Anywhere is a good place to swim or kayak; so as soon as you see water, you know what to do!

The High Country Rail Trail

The High Country Rail Trail is 43km long and starts Whytes road in Wodonga. You can choose to go the whole way, or just a short section. It takes you along the edge of Lake Hume, and proves to have some amazing views. Some sections of the Lake Hume trail are sealed, but the surface does change to gravel from time to time, so be sure to wear proper shoes or take an extra tube in case of a puncture.

Picnic

It may sound funny, but enjoying a picnic with your loved ones can be a great way to gobble energy. And cake. And tea. And cheese. And breads. Bring a blanket, some snacks and your favourite person for take a walk around Lake Hume to find a quiet spot to enjoy the views and each other. If you’ve been fishing that day, you can easily prepare some fish on one of the barbeques dotted around Lake Hume.

Discovery Parks - Lake Hume will give you access to all of these activities, not to mention many other things to do.
