Touring The Top End

28 Apr 2014

Motorcycling enthusiast Graeme Noad (otherwise known as 'The Toad') is touring Australia on his Victory Motorcycle, blogging his Toad On The Road stories for Victory Motorcycles Australia along the way. This week he found himself in the East Kimberley and stopped at Discovery Parks - Lake Kununurra for a couple of nights. This is what he had to say:

Hi Guys,

My new travelling mate Cliffy and I left Fitzroy Crossing, Sat morning at 6.30am to beat the heat again on our run to Turkey Creek. It was a good plan we made great time and had time for some fun and a cool down on the way, those Victory's will go anywhere, Mary Ponds for instance.

Great change in countryside as you head into Kimberly's and what a day my new travelling bud, Cliffy and I had. First up the chopper flight over the Bungle Bungles with pilot Matt Harvey of SlingAir, it was awesome! 45 mins all up from Turkey Creek out to the Bungles and back a real hoot.

After our flight we made a dash for Kununurra trying to beat the 37c heat, which I did with the help of an ice vest Cliffy lent me, what a ripper. Gotta get me one of them!

We arrived at the Discovery Park and what a place to pull into, right on the shores of The Ord River and Lake Kununurra.

On a Monday night they have a Beef and Barra BBQ to raise funds for the local care flight helicopter by the banks of the Ord River at a spot called Crocodile Rock, named for a regular visitor, 52yr old George the 2m freshwater croc who makes a habit of attending any function held at his rock.

So there we are having a lovely time, munching away on our Barra and Steak and guess who turns up to have a look but George.

What palace this country of ours is and what a thrill it is to see it from the back of a bike.

Heading for Darwin next and looking forward to hooking up with Matt and his Victory boys for a service and a new back tyre.
