Easter is just around the corner (we know, scary isn't it!) and that's got us thinking about all the chocolate delights that come with this delicious time of year. To help get us in the mood we've taken a look at the best chocolate factories that you can visit around Australia. Starting in WA and making our way across the Nullarbor down to SA and across to Vic, the cooler climates seem to have the best spots for you to indulge. Whistler Chocolate Co and Margaret River Chocolate Company
When you’re visiting the Swan Valley, you’ll be spoilt for choice for where to head for a delectable chocolate day out! With both Whistler’s Chocolate Co and the Margaret River Chocolate Company both just a short drive away, why not make the time to visit both.
Whistler’s Chocolate Co in Middle Swan has been making traditional handmade chocolates and confectionary for over 40 years, with an extensive range featuring classic favourites such as Rocky Road, Coconut Rough and Peanut Brittle. Visit their show room, café and gift store, where you’ll be able to sample everything, as well as getting to check out their chocolate sculpture!
The Margaret River Chocolate Company has 3 locations around Western Australia, with the Swan Valley factory and tasting centre offering free entry and free tastings, as well as giving you the chance to watch the chocolates being made – including their adorable ‘Chokka the Quokka’ milk chocolate quokkas! The factory also features The Chocolate Café, with the menu offering breakfast and light lunches, as well as sumptuous chocolate inspired desserts and drinks.

Producing handmade gourmet chocolates, Freemantle Chocolate was established in 2002, by the founders of the Margaret River Fudge Factory. They offer a wide range of chocolates, lollies and fudges, and you can visit their factory to watch their chocolates being made from the viewing gallery, while enjoying samples of their products.
Fremantle Chocolate, WA is open Monday to Friday 9am-5pm and Saturday 9am-4pm

House of Anvers
A holiday in Tasmania isn’t complete without a visit to the House of Anvers, which offers some of the finest Belgian chocolate in Australia! Established in 1989 by Igor Van Gerwen, who came to Australia from Belgium, the House of Anvers sources the finest ingredients to guarantee the highest quality finish for their chocolates, truffles and fudges. You can watch the chocolate and confectionary being made in the factory, or head to the Tasting Room to sample the products and start the hard task of narrowing down which ones to purchase!

Melba's Chocolate Factory
Melba’s Chocolates & Confectionary was established in Adelaide in 1981, and soon after relocated to Woodside in the Adelaide Hills. The Factory uses heritage chocolate and confectionary making equipment, where they produce old-fashioned favourites, such as Rocky Road and Traffic Lights, in the time-honoured fashion. They Factory has grown over time, and now contains 5 production rooms, giving visitors the opportunity to watch these classic favourites being made. Visitors are encouraged to chat to the staff to find out as much about the production process as possible, before heading to the shop to buy up all your favourites!

The oldest family-owned chocolate makers in Australia, Haigh’s was founded in Adelaide in 1915. With stores now located around Australia, head to the Visitor Centre in Parkside for a free guided viewing tour to learn the history of Haigh's and how they make their premium quality chocolate. You can watch their team of confectioners using artisan skills to create and hand finish their delicious range of chocolates, and enjoy special chocolate tastings during the tour. Make sure you leave enough time to explore the Visitor Centre retail store, where you’ll be able to choose from a huge range of factory fresh chocolates and confectionery, including their famous frogs, truffles, fruit centres, fudges and bars.
Haigh’s Chocolates Visitor Centre is open Monday to Saturday 8.30am – 5.30pm; due to COVID, tours are temporarily suspended but normally operate Monday and Saturday between 9am and 2.30pm and Tuesday to Friday 9am to 4pm.

Barossa Valley Chocolate Company
Barossa Valley Chocolate Company uses the most delicious chocolate sourced from Australia and overseas. You can watch their team of chocolatiers creating delicious treats through the viewing windows, using a mixture of traditional and modern tempering, enrobing, moulding, spinning and panning techniques to create all the chocolates you see in the complex. You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to purchasing your faves, with over 250 chocolate products made from milk, dark, white and ruby chocolate, featuring bars, bags and blocks of infused flavours and pralines using local produce, such as Barossa Cider and Vineyard Road Shiraz.

Freckleberry Chocolate Company
Tucked away in South Geelong, Freckleberry Chocolate Factory specialises in creating delicious and innovatively packaged chocolate products. They pride themselves on their delicious smooth Belgian chocolate blend, and you will be spoilt for choice with their wide range of chocolates from Rocky Road, Chocolate Pizzas and Chocolate Coated Honeycomb, to their specialty of quirky chocolate designs covered in freckles!
