Four Day Itinerary

Day 1

Take time to acquaint yourself with this wonderful town, steep in history and character. The best place for local seafood, wine, coastal walks and a feast of art and heritage.  Monuments and attractions such as  :- Fox’s Beach, The Outlet, Hoopers Beach, Town Beach, Lake Butler Boat Haven, Breakwater, Karatta House, Local Jetty, Baudin Rocks, Cape Dombey, Obelisk, Old  Gaol, Chinese Monument, Custom House, Doorway Rocks, Factory Bay, Goat Island and Cape Lannes. You will be pleasantly surprised by the history surrounding this village.

The information centre has Robe’s only history display room and their friendly staff are on hand to help you.

After your lovely walk settle down at the Robe Hotel for a scrumptious meal with help yourself vegetables or salad.

In the afternoon pop into Wilson’s at Robe to see their Fish & Line exhibition of paintings and sculptures. The Art House on Robe street and sometimes we have exhibitions in the town hall. Coffee and cake can be obtained at The Union Cafe, Vic street Pizzeria, Mahalia Coffee Roasting House and the WildMulberry Cafe.

Have dinner in any of our fine dining establishments:-Robe Hotel, Caledonian Inn and The Gallery.

Other options if you just wish to relax on your first day could include any of the following:-

  •    Joy Flights at Robe
  •  Learn to Kite Surf and Canoe
  •    Swim in our heated pool
  •    Picnic on the lovely Longbeach in front of the park
  •   Or just relax with family and friends with a BBQ in the park

Day 2

If wine tasting and wineries take your fancy then we are blessed with an enviable Outside Penley Estate with a bottle of winereputation for crafting work class wines.  Our region is home to a number of premier wine producers. You could call into these on your way to Kingston SE. There are several wineries to see and taste on route :- Ralph Fowler, Wangolina Station, Wehl’s Mount Benson, Cape Jaffa Wines. These wineries are all situated between Robe and Kingston SE.

Don’t pass on visiting the new construction at Cape Jaffa, a world class marina and residential development to surpass everything. When you get to Kingston a must for a treat is Grandma’s pantry for some yummy homemade biscuits and jams.

Have lunch at The Big Lobster and leisurely make your way back to Robe.

In the evening go to the South Coast Cinemas to watch the latest releases. Right next door you have Ice-cream shop.

Day 3

Take a day trip to Mount Gambier, the city built on the slopes of an extinct volcano.  Mount Gambier, ’The Blue Lake City’ is South Australia’s second largest city.  On the way detour to Beachport, take your bathers and experience the uniquely buoyant Pool of Siloam, which has a salt concentration seven times greater than the sea. Other attraction in this unique area include:

  •    Karatta Wines (just out of Robe)
  •    Woakwine Cutting (on the Beachport Road)
  •   Millicent (The Living History Museum, Art Galley and Library, Windfarms, Canunda National Park, Jubilee Park and Lake McIntyre)
  •  TantanoolaCave Conservation Park
  •    Limestone Coast Trout Farm
  •    MountGambier (Blue Lake, Art Galleys and the Visitor Information Centre)

Naracoorte CavesOn your return trip to Robe drive via Naracoorte to experience the Naracoorte Wold Heritage Fossil Site – uncover Australia’s giant mega fauna at the Wonambi Fossil Centre and then explore the many caves in the region.

Day 4

If you packed those golf clubs then Robe and surrounding areas are abundant with magnificent golf courses 17 in fact. Each one has their own character, you will be able to share interesting stories with golf mates when you return home.

Otherwise if you did not have time to experience the nature walks around Robe, then set time today to do one of these.

If you visit us during the Crayfish Season call into Skye Seafoods, pick up a fresh or cooked cray, you can’t go home without sampling our local seafood. Four Wheel Driving is a popular activity in the Limestone Coast. There are opportunities to experience 4WD on beaches or desert.

 

Heated Swimming Pool

On those days when the beach is still great to walk along but the sea is a little chilly to swim in.

Come and enjoy our indoor heated swimming pool.

Mount Benson Wine Region

The Mount Benson Wine Region know as ‘terra rossa by the sea’ is just 15 minutes from Robe. Acclaimed for its cool climate wines, the region specializes in both reds and whites.

With numerous cellar doors why not stop for a visit & explore our local wineries.

Limestone Coast Cheese Company

The Limestone Coast Cheese Company uses the regions finest milk to produce a range of specialty handcrafted premium gourmet cheeses.

Our products include Callendale Vintage Cheddar, Jacky White Camembert, Lady Musgrave Double Brie, Bilyarra Blue, Bristol Blue, Brandenburg Romano, Quark and Marinated Feta.

Location: The Cellar Door (cheese tasting and sales) is located on Roach Road in the township of Lucindale.

Open from 11am to 4pm Wednesday to Friday and 10am to 1pm Saturday.
