Discovery Holiday Parks
Biloela, Banana Shire, QLD

It is located in Central Queensland, 120 km west of the growing industrial City and Port of Gladstone and an easy drive to the city of Rockhampton. The capital of the region is the lovely Biloela.

The Shire derives its name from the days when cattle were valuable for hides and tallow and herds were wild. Stockmen used working bullocks as decoys to lead the wild cattle to pens and the region was subsequently named after one such renowned decoy... "Banana".

The region is now known for its rich resources and wide variety of agriculture and has become one of the largest contributors to the Queensland economic community. But the Banana Shire is not just home to these resources, it is home to many natural attractions, including gorges, rivers and National Parks such as Kroombit and Mt. Scoria Conservation Parks, and is within 100 km of Isla and Cania Gorges. Fishing and water sports are also ever popular on the Lake Callide and there are many areas to explore for the 4WD enthusiast.

With so much land to cover and places to see, you will need somewhere convenient and relaxing to rest your weary head. Discovery Holiday Parks - Biloela is the perfect place. Close to all the amenities the town has to offer, but yet on a 16 acre block, you will feel relaxed and ready to take on the vigour of the land as soon as you arrive!

Biloela

Biloela is the cultural and commercial heart of the beautiful Banana Shire. Biloela is an aboriginal word for white cockatoo and hub of the magnificent twin valleys of Callide and Dawson in the Banana Shire.

Mt Scoria

Mt. Scoria means "place of Fused Metals". This amazing 150m high rare rock formation, was once the core of a volcano, and long six sided basalt columns on top of the mountain project outward like fingers. When struck with another rock, they produce a delightfully musical sound.
The delightful cottage winery offers a unique experience. The wine is made in the traditional manner and is free of all preservatives or artificial colouring.

Lake Callide

Lake Callide provides a delightful space to relax and enjoy the sight of a myriad of bird life, including the majestic pelicans and swans. Picnic facilities and toilets are easily accessible. The Lake is kept stocked from the in-ground breeding ponds, and fishing is a pleasant pastime enjoyed by many.

The Queensland Heritage Park - Primary Industries & Visitor Information Centre

This heritage primary industries exhibition stimulates interactive learning opportunities which are housed in a huge silo from Wxpo88.

Greycliffe Homestead and Museum

Callide Lookout

This beautiful lookout just past the Callide Power Station offers impressive views of the industrial giants. Gain a bird's eye perspective of the mining operations at Callide Mine or take in the enormity of the power station and the local water source, Lake Callide.

Kroombit Tops National Park

The park is a spectacular plateau that provides stunning views of the Gladstone region which is ideal for bush walking and exploring the many wonders of the National Park including Dry Gully Gorge and the Eastern Escarpment.
