The orcas are up to 40ft long, with dorsal fins as tall as 5”8, and are incredible to see, even as bone structures. The Museum is 80 years old, and is recognised as one of the most innovative museums in regional New South Wales, putting it at the top of your to do list.

The Seahorse Inn Boydtown (just a 400km walk down the shore)

Built by Benjamin Boyd in 1843, the Inn was named after Boyd’s steamship. Brick cottages, a wool store, salting down works and church were part of Boyd’s grand style empire. Today, the space is used as a Boutique Hotel serving lunch and dinner.

Boyd's Tower (28km)

Originally a lighthouse designed by Ben Boyd in 1847,  this sandstone tower is surrounded by sea on three sides and offers a beautiful lookout spot to view the whales along the coast.

Whale Watching (Seasonal)

If you aren’t interested in seeing beautiful, majestic mammals glide effortlessly through ocean waves, steer clear of this. However, if this sounds like your kind of thing, and you are in the area between September and November, you’re in luck. Humpback and Southern Right whales visit the Ben Boyd National Park during their Southern Migration to Antarctica. If you go in November, you will also have the opportunity to go to the Eden Whale Festival.

Davidson Whaling Station (27km)

A few minutes' drive from Boyd's Tower is the historic Davidson Whaling Station, this was the longest operating whale station in Australia and the last of its kind to stand. The original cottage residence still stands amid stretches of open garden - a great spot for a picnic with the family.

Bayscliff, the entrance to Wonboyn Lake, is a top choice for salmon and tailor.

Kiah Wilderness Kayak Tours (5km)

Glide down the Kiah - the Towomba River - with experience guides and locals of the Sapphire Coast. Situated on a quiet, protected, coastal estuary brimming with a variety of bird and fish. Ranging from a couple hours to a full day tour, choose a provider that will help you customise your kayaking quest.

Green Cape Lighthouse (34.2km)

Don’t forget the camera when you go to Green Cape Lighthouse. The view from 30 metres up is hypnotic, and easier to view from behind a lens if you are nervous about heights. From up here, you can get a spectacular view of Disaster Bay. That’s not an oxymoron, the Green Cape Lighthouse allows you to see many historical shipwrecks and is even said to be haunted. You can also catch a glimpse of whales and dolphins from the lookout of New South Wales’ most southerly light.

The Davidson Whaling Station (32km)

When you visit this whaling station, you will be overwhelmed by the incredible history that this small town holds. The four generations of Davidson’s who ran the station, located on the shores of the Kiah Inlet at Twofold Bay, used open rowboats and found unlikely companions and friends in killer whales, who assisted their hunts and were nicknamed by the locals. There’s more to this story that you can uncover at the Davidson Whaling Station.

Ben Boyd National Park (26km)

Rocky coastline and pristine beaches, Ben Boyd National Park is rich with settler and indigenous history. Learn about the sacred relationship between the Thaua people and the wild orca, and the namesake of the national park. Then, explore the trails, shore, and whale watching spots.

Otherwise known as the Killer Whale Trail, the Light to Light Walk is a must-do trail in Ben Boyd National Park. From multi-day to light walks, choose your section of the trail. The views are ever-changing. Access this trail from Saltwater Creek or Bittangee Bay.

Rotary Park Lookout (9km)
