CUTTLEFISH ANYONE?

30 Jun 2016

Cuttlefish season in Whyalla has begun. From May to August, thousands of Giant Australian Cuttlefish (sepia apama) collect in the shallow waters near Whyalla. These amazing 'chameleons of the sea' are one of the largest species of cuttlefish and this is the only place in the world where you can experience this spectacular event.

Tony Bramley from Whyalla Diving Services has been out on the water over the last few days. “The cuttlefish are only just starting to congregate but they are already here in pretty good numbers”, he said. “It is a truly spectacular event on anyone’s calendar, not just professional divers, and certainly a sight to see. This is the only place in the world where you can witness this type of event.”

Discovery Park Whyalla is offering a range of specials on accommodation valid until the end of August 2016 to give divers of all levels the chance to experience this amazing sight.  The Park can also provide dive gear storing and drying facilities.
